Our Kelowna client is looking to add a new Construction Planner to their busy team. This position will be responsible for projects and duties will include, among other things, research, policy review, the preparation of development related applications, moving the application through the appropriate agencies and approval authorities, and applicant support / liaison through the process.

Primary responsibilities for this position will include undertaking long-range and community planning initiatives, including but not limited to: updating and developing new and existing Municipal plans, planning bylaws and policies, assisting with community outreach and engagement initiatives for planning processes. When required, the Community Planner may also be responsible for processing land use and development applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop land use plans and programs. Land development application, which may include plan formulation and review, land use plan

  • Assess the feasibility of proposals and identify necessary changes.

  • Formulate recommendations on project feasibility, cost-effectiveness, compliance and possible alternatives.

  • According to city regulations, coordinate the work of supervision, design and construction units

  • Manage planning, design and construction of building projects.

  • Develop and implement master plans for building projects including new construction or major renovations.

  • Review new project details and make recommendations if needed.

  • Provide design review and support for the proposed project.

  • Assist project team in developing design drawings, specifications and documents.

  • Develop and implement standard specifications for construction finishes.

Requirements:

  • A minimum one year's directly-related experience

  • First rate computing, analytical, research and problem-solving skills

  • Client-oriented approach / focus

  • Attention to details

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and changing priorities

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Experience processing land use and development applications will be considered an asset.

  • In-depth understanding of planning principles, practices and processes in British Columbia, including applicable planning legislation.
