Financial Accounting Manager

Our Vernon, BC client is looking to add a Financial Accounting Manager to their strong and robust finance team. The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting for group of companies operating in the USA and Canada. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

The Financial Accounting Manager supervises six staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Financial Accounting Manager will have contact with the company’s Executives, bank, insurance, and lease companies and will report directly to the Controller which requires strong interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department including:

  • month and year-end close

  • accounts receivable and payable, including annual 1099 reporting

  • cheque runs

  • payment receipts and bank reconciliations

  • prepaid reconciliations

  • property tax reconciliations

  • capital asset reconciliations

  • intercompany reconciliations

  • accounting for hedging activity

  • sales taxes filings in the USA and Canada

  • internal sales tax audit compliance

  • fixed asset and leasing acquisitions, disposals, and buyouts

  • maintaining accurate and complete listings of owned and leased assets

  • providing required information for insurance and investment purposes

  • communicating with insurance and lease companies regarding any changes and issues

  • overseeing treasury functions such as stop payments, hedging, intercompany transfers, and wire payments.

  • administering the filing of personal property taxes

  • ensuring the timely reporting of all monthly financial activity

  • providing support for budgeting and forecasting activities

  • monitoring and analyzing tasks to enhance the workflow of the department

  • advising staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions

  • preparing quarterly and year-end working papers for the group of companies

  • responding to inquiries from the CFO, Controller, and others in the company

  • working with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit

  • providing training to new and existing staff as needed

  • supporting staff to enable them to be fully engaged in their work

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, CPA is preferred

  • proficiency with Office 365 and Dynamics AX

  • proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and standards

  • supervisory experience as Accounting or Finance Manager

  • high attention to detail and accuracy

  • strong verbal and written communication skills

  • strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills

  • ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • strong team player, willing to help others within the department or within other departments.
