Accounting Assistant - 18 Month Contract

Our Kelowna, BC client is a dynamic and growing organization. They are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team for a 18 month Contract. NOTE: There is potential for other opportunities beyond the term period, but this is not guaranteed. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development within the finance department.

As an Accounting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the finance team by assisting in various accounting activities. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around the preparation of annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM), recoveries, account reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) statements and recoveries.

  • Conduct timely and accurate account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.

  • Review and approve A/P batches as they relate to materiality

  • Prepare, review, and approve GST returns

  • Review and approve online bill payments

  • Support in the development and maintenance of budgets and forecasts.

  • Contribute to the consolidated monthly/quarterly/annual executive portfolio summary

  • Contribute to the planning and completion of annual operating cost recoverieCollaborate with the finance team to analyze financial data and prepare relevant reports.

  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

  • Process and record financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.

  • Maintain organized and well-documented financial records, both in physical and electronic formats.

  • Participate in audits, providing necessary documentation and assisting in the resolution of audit inquiries.

  • Adhere to internal financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations.

  • Provide general administrative support to the finance department as needed.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience or internship in an accounting role.

  • Accounting diploma considered an asset.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and accounting software.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when needed.
