HR GENERALIST
Location: Lake Country, BC

Our Okanagan client is responsible for supporting the day-to-day Human Resources services and providing guidance and support to Management Team. Reporting into the Human Resources Manager, this role will assist with various HR related functions and initiatives including, but not limited to, recruitment/talent acquisition, compliance training and development, OHS & Claims Management (including communicable disease coordination), administration of HRMS, Benefits administration & other HR related support.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment
Create Job Requisitions supported by Labour Plan (approved budgets) and confirm Job Descriptions/ rates in preparation for seasonal hiring requirements
Co-ordinate and support People Managers throughout the recruitment process
Collaborate with Hiring Managers on Talent Acquisition to support the internal and external recruitment processes, including testing, interviewing, and coaching managers on candidate selection based on predefined criteria
Be the lead for ATS and job postings using social media
Safety
Develops policies/procedures on all areas of safety and health including entry into confined spaces, lock out tag out, work requiring fall protection and working with equipment.
Provides expertise for the development of Safety Policies and Programs through joint committees to ensure that employer/ employee safety needs are met.
Ongoing consultation to management, health and safety committees, employees for the company regarding proactive solutions to safety and health related problems.
Tracks all First Aid reports, ensures communication to all area managers in any increased safety concerns
Prepares reports on hazard recognition, evaluation and control based on analysis and interpretation of accident data and/or safety concerns.
Maintaining correspondence with WorkSafe BC
Assisting department managers with “stay at work” and “return to work” programs for injured employees
Maintaining statistics on work related injuries and WorkSafe BC claim costs
Advises others on hazard recognition, hazard controls, subsequent risk and related safety matters.
Ensure WHMIS and SDS programs are up to date
Ensures all aspects of Fire Safety and OHS Policy are tracked and tested (i.e. Fire Drill, signage, etc)
Investigates serious accidents/incidents including identifying how accidents occur and what role each party plays in accident causation and prevention. Provides recommendations and advice on corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Works with team lead/supervisors to receive EIIR. Tracks and assigns corrective action responsibilities to individuals with completion timelines and conducts workplace inspections to ensure follow through.
Training
Assess required training needs to apply and conduct or monitor required training programs
Establishes an in-house employee training system that addresses company training needs including training needs assessment, new employee onboarding or orientation, management development, production cross-training, the measurement of training impact, and training transfers.
Coordinate training for workers (Forklift, Pesticide awareness, ladder training etc.) and ensure accurate reporting and tracking for all training is maintained
As a Human Resources Specialist, you bring:
Certificate, diploma or degree in Human Resource Management or related field is preferred.
1-2 years of experience in a Coordinator role for Health & Safety or relevant experience
Knowledge in WSBC Claim Management is considered a must
Must have a Class 5 Driver's License
Transportation required to get to/from work & travel between our local facilities
Experience with Canadian Employment Standards legislation
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Effective verbal and written communication skills; should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy in written language, data and analysis
Ability to identify roadblocks, and provide insightful data with proactive solutions
Ability to work in a fast-paced, fast-growth environment where the business is constantly evolving
Exercise discretion and sound judgement with the ability to reliably and professionally handle sensitive information
