Employee & Labour Relations Manager

Our client, is looking to add an Employee & Labour Relations Manager to the Company’s People Operations team. This position plays a key role in the design, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of Company’s employee relations frameworks and deliverables, including handbooks, contracts, procedures, and policies.

The Employee Relations Manager is expected to remain current on regulations, laws, industry trends and best practices; and to keep the organization compliant and competitive by advising management and making timely changes in practices and policies.

The Employee & Labour Relations Manager must be a self-motivated team player who is committed to the companies cause and has a track record of successfully designing and implementing organizational change management processes around employee relations, policy, and compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice, counselling and support to division on Employee Relations policies, procedures and programs relating to employment legislation, and the understanding of the collective agreements where applicable.

  • Provides recommendations and handles cases involving performance management, corrective actions, terminations, and accommodations.

  • Conducts investigations relative to complaints and disciplines; assists with conflict management, and dispute resolution or other employee relations matter.

  • Collaborate with all parties to develop a positive working relationship based upon mutual respect, trust and confidence and interact with key partners to resolve employment issues.

  • Management of grievances and labour arbitrations, being proactive to resolve issues before grievances are filed and matters proceed to litigation, whenever possible.

  • Maintains effective day-to-day labour relations with the unions.

  • Responsible for providing timely and accurate advice, guidance and further develop positive labour-management relations.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in relation to Labour Relations is an asset

  • CPHR designation is an asset

  • Must have significant recent related experience in labour relations

  • Demonstrated ability to advise and implement operational plans in a large, complex organization

  • Superior investigative skills and ability

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Demonstrated excellent conflict resolution skills

  • Proven ability to engage others and work collaboratively as part of the HR team

  • Demonstrated solution orientation
