FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Our West Kelowna Client is seeking to recruit a full time Financial Controller to join their organization.
Reporting to and partnering with the President, the Controller shall hold responsibility for managing the overall financial operations of the Company and will provide accurate information to Management, Department Supervisors and applicable 3rd parties. (e.g. financial institutions, shareholders, etc.). This is to include analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial reports.
As a member of the leadership team, the Controller will be an advisor to the Managers and Supervisors of all departments.
The Controller will be responsible for directing and managing the Company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to management and externally. The Controller also maintains and has a comprehensive understanding of the company's ERP, accounting systems and internal controls and implements changes as required.
Responsibilities:
Delegate and assign work, enable the day to day workflow of the department, and provide coaching and feedback.
Hire, train and coach employees to promote growth, skill development, and accountability.
Overall responsibility for the accounting operations including journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results against budget.
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
External reporting, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.
Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
Work with all departments to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes that impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency.
Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
Initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
Sole authority to approve EFT transactions for payroll, expense claims and payments to vendors.
Overall responsibility for the ERP system, including optimization thereof, and assisting staff when problems encountered.
Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Manage research and development program for CRA and accounting requirements.
Coordinating year-end audit activities.
Responsible for maintaining adequate insurance levels to safeguard the Company
Ensures rapid and consistent collection of receivables by refining and implementing control mechanisms.
Requirements:
5+ years in a Controller position with supervisory responsibilities
University degree in Business/Accounting, with professional accounting designation (such as CA, CPA, CGA, CMA) preferred.
Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting and analysis
Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding financial records.
Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
Financial analysis, budgeting and strategic planning experience
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
Proven ability to lead, train and develop
Experience working in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts, and ability to execute solution
