Our Kelowna client is seeking a Senior Accountant/Controller to join their amazing team. In this role the ideal candidate will be responsible for all phases of accounting, including financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and general ledger maintenance, as well as use sound computer technical skills and solid judgment within the accounting team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular and recurring accounting functions requiring professional competency

  • Use established Accounting principles to work under limited supervision and to provide assistance to CFO with daily operations

  • Establish appropriate procedures for preparation of accounting records, research of transactions, and reporting

  • Aide in completion of annual budgets and financial statement audits

  • Develop, manage and implement month-end closings, including all related processes and procedures

  • Review monthly account reconciliations of various general ledger accounts to include; research and timely resolution of complex reconciling items

  • Analyze journal entries to the general ledger ensuring data integrity and accuracy

  • Assist to ensure financials are in accordance with GAAP or other required accounting standards

  • Contribute to operational and process improvements

  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and proper supporting documents are provided

  • Prepare monthly financial reports to compare actuals to budget, forecast and prior year, and investigate any drivers of significant variances

  • Plan, develop and document procedures and processes to improve transparency and efficiency

  • Summarize and prepare financial status and transactions reports, including a profit and loss statement, and other necessary reports

  • Guide junior accounting staff by answering questions

  • Play a vital part in the company's financial management which includes all account reconciliations and reporting to necessary parties

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is an asset

  • 4+ years of accounting experience

  • Or any similar combination of education and experience

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and database software packages

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Effective and efficient time management and organization skills

  • Detail oriented and thorough

  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Self-directed individual who is comfortable working in a team environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively and be comfortable explaining accounting concepts to people with non-financial backgrounds

  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high initiative, flexibility and team approach to work
